The process of goals setting allows students to choose what they want to achieve. This way they know where to concentrate on and improve. Goal setting gives students long-term vision and short-term motivation.

So what’s the difference between goals we eventually achieve and goals that we give up on? How can we set goals so that we can achieve them all the time and not just some of the time? To answer these questions, let’s dissect the mechanics of goal setting, then review some strategies that will help us to achieve our goals all of the time.

Set A Realistic Goal. As a student we tend to set a goal we want to accomplish in the whole academic year but we all know that some of the goal we set are unreachable. When we set a goal we should start with the little things. Consider whether you can achieve your goal. Realistic goals are achievable goals; unrealistic goals are just dreams. It’s not necessary to be negative, but take the time to evaluate in an honest way whether you are realistic.

Work Hard. This one seems obvious, but many people underestimate the level of effort it takes to be successful and achieve goals. In order for us to achieve our goal we have to hard to get it. Just like when you want to have a higher grades you have to study hard in order for you to have it.

Dont Make Excuses and Accept Failure. The longer you sit around making excuses, the further you will drift from the possibility of achieving your goals. Successful people don’t make excuses for failure or shortcomings. They acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses and seek feedback from trusted advisers.

Make Sacrifices. Success comes from sacrifices. If you want to accomplish your goal you have some sacrifices or adjustments. For example you want to have a higher grades or atleast finish some paper works you have to set aside the unimportant things and focus on what you do. You have to choose between the important things and the things you can do much later. A little sacrifice won’t do us harm but it can help us to achieve our goal.

Set Deadlines. In setting a goal you should also set your deadline. This way you can easily identify the goals you have to do first and the goals you can do later. Create a complete, measurable, action plan that includes all the steps necessary to achieve your goal. Make your goals timely by setting a due date. As a student you should always meet with your deadline no matter what. Do the things you have to do on time never wait to do it on the coming days. Consistent actions will propel you towards your goal.

Tell It To Your Friends. Share the things you want to do to your friends this way they can help to motivate you and they can provide you with encouragement, advice, healthy feedback.

Be Positive. A generous amount of optimism really makes a difference. If you can’t be more positive in life, things simply won’t change.

Reward Yourself. When you achieve something dont forget to reward or treat yourself. Have fun once in a while. For example you accomplish something buy the things you want or treat yourself in a restaurant. This way you can help to motivate yourself beacause in every goal you reach you can have something in return. The reward serves as your motivation.

So if we want to achieve our goal just remember you are your own best motivator. Your motivation must come from within yourself. Others may try to encourage you, but you are the only one who can attain what you desire. You must convince yourself – you can!
