Disrupting the Tattoo Industry
If you ever wanted to get a tattoo, without the consequences of having it forever, look no further than with Ephemeral Tattoos. They are a startup of NYU alums: Seung Shin (CEO, Tandon ‘15), Joshua Sakhai (COO, Stern ‘17), Brennal Pierre (CTO, Tandon ‘16), and Vandan Shah (VP Engineering, Tandon ‘16). Using their combined knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit, they set out to revolutionize the way people get tattoos, starting from the ink itself. With their groundbreaking technology, inks can last from a few months to a few years meaning that you will soon be able to get that tattoo you’ve dreamed of, without the permanent commitment!
Seung had this amazing idea come to him in a painful way. He had gotten a tattoo the traditional way, but ultimately had to get rid of it. This complex involved a trip to the clinic, where he had to pay hundreds of dollars for laser surgery that only brought a lot of pain and scarred skin. To his dismay, Seung learned that this was just one of many sessions he had to undergo over a period of a few years in order to fully remove his tattoo. Amongst the pain on his skin and in his wallet, Seung came up with the idea to completely rethink the tattoo application process, so that anyone who got a tattoo and wanted it removed, could avoid the suffering he went through.
With an idea and a drive to see it through, Seung built his dream team finding teammates through his research lab and team hunt events. With the help of the NYU’s entrepreneurial community, they started to flesh out the concept and made it through several programs such as the $300k Entrepreneurs Challenge and NYU Summer Launchpad. Since then, they have raised hundreds of thousands in funding and completed the famed Techstars NYC program, while continuing development and being featured in TechCrunch, Business Insider, and The Telegraph, among others. Seung has given back to the NYU community since then, as a mentor at the Entrepreneurial Institute, where he has coached and helped several teams in taking their idea off the ground.
InnoVention Society, an NYU startup community club, invites you to our Startup Meetup with Seung and Josh themselves. If you’re launching a startup or interested in entrepreneurship wondering how to take an idea that you have to the next level, you do not want to miss this event!
