Introducing the 2018 IVS FYER 🔥 Cohort!

InnoVention Society is proud to announce that we have selected 29 of NYU’s most promising first year undergraduate and graduate students for the inaugural cohort of our new program, FYER: First Year Entrepreneurship Recruits

As part of the program, the cohort will get to connect with leaders of the NYC entrepreneurial and investment ecosystem from companies like Clarifai,, DigitalOcean, Two Sigma Ventures and Google. The FYER experience aims to expand their knowledge of everything entrepreneurship, and help them develop their own startup ideas.

FYER is the second of our programs, the first being the InnoVention Competition (IVC). IVC is a tech-based startup challenge where NYU-affiliated entrepreneurs from across the globe build a team, prototype products, and pitch commercially viable ventures to solve real-world problems. A unique mix of an accelerator and a competition, the challenge offers 12 student-led ventures workshops, coaching, community, perks, legal services and an opportunity to to win up to $50,000. As part of FYER, the cohort will meet the IVC teams and get to see what a startup competition is like from the inside.

We had an astounding response from the community with 150 applications, so these 29 are really the best and brightest that NYU has to offer. Before we list them, here are some stats about the bunch:

  • 19 undergraduates, 10 graduates
  • 9 different NYU schools represented
  • 11 different countries represented
  • 4:5 female to male gender ratio

The program has already hit the ground running. On March 30th, we kicked things off with an awesome AMA with the Managing Director of the Future Labs, Steven Kuyan who’s also the advisor for our club, InnoVention Society. Last week, we stopped by the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute to have breakfast with Executive Director Frank Rimalovski and our group traveled to the office to hear another fantastic AMA with CEO Dennis R. Mortensen. The students were thrilled to get know some of the NYC startup community leaders and get the inside scoop on their careers.

“FYER is an incredible opportunity that lets, us, students early in our college career to become part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The group backgrounds and fields of study are diverse but we’re all interested in entrepreneurship and the speakers so far have been really cool and insightful”

— Says Sofia Machado Lopes, a CS First Year at NYU Tandon.
