Most challenging learning experience so far…
When it comes to learning curves i have been through quite a few circuitous routes myself and programming fun as it is has kept me on my toes for a while now.
Let’s go to the “basics”. MEAN stack, coming from an SQL background i understood database structures and all that so despite the contrasting differences I was able to jump right into the MongoDB river till I hit the Express Iceberg, but I have seen Titanic and I was determined to have a different fate, getting to shore I began my serpentine journey through the surreal world of Angular, twists and turns dead ends with a bend it was frustrating to say the very list, but I would not let a blinking box get the better of me so i kept on trucking and finally I was in the Node tunnel. The Node tunnel is something straight out of a comic book, with it I saw things I thought impossible, I poured through countless tutorials amazed by what I saw but daunted when I could not replicate something similar but with a touch originality (there is no point copying and pasting code if you do not understand it in my opinion).
Finally I was able to settle for a level of understanding in Node and despite the mean experience (dry pun intended), i still loved JavaScript with every fiber of my being. Then came the point where I had to plug them together ( I am using “plug” for lack of a better term), well let’s just saw it is a good thing i ain’t into building actually hardware just yet. I could literally see sparks flying off with each error message. The mistakes haunted me in my dreams I could not get any form of rest.
Talking about REST, the api was fun and easy to grasp…. In the videos on YouTube when you see Api analogies like a waiter at a restaurant taking your orders and stuff, but in the end I am a hands-on learner.
So I picked up a project ( should be in my git repo) and put all my knowledge and confusion to good use. I can now proudly say I have a solid understanding of these listed technologies and I can’t wait to build upon them.
