If you might not have had ancestors who took part in those crimes, think of it this way — as a white individual in the US presently, you are afforded a lot of advantages that black individuals, especially black women, are not.

You can focus on the truths of the present in which you are much less likely to come to harm and much more likely to be successful than the person/woman of color next to you with otherwise equal skill, determination, and resources.

You can still cheer from the sidelines.
