It’s a grey zone. Although you’re technically right, it’s not always perceived as such and when customs officers see you’ve been traveling for a long time they get suspicious.

I’ve had multiple friends who’ve gotten in trouble at customs. Particularly when connecting in London, Berlin or other major European countries.
