Some of my sister’s and my best friends participate in drum line and it wasn’t until I saw them compete that I really understood what drum line is and how much goes into it. Honestly, I pictured it being like a marching band, but when I saw them beforehand getting into costume, and then start to wheel out all of their instruments and floor piece for their show(which doesn’t everything have to be set up un under 2 minutes? Lots of practice is needed for that I’m sure!), and then seeing them perform was when I really began to understand all that went into it. Plus, they were one of the top scoring bands which was pretty neat to see! Anyways… Now to the homework!
I really liked all of the videos! I thought they all had something very special to them. I found myself really liking the dancing in the first one — the monkey feel that it had reminded me a lot of the musical Wicked. The second one was amazing as well. It was exciting to see one of the top performances at the World Championship, and I also thought that it was really cool since they were from Chino Hills High School since that is relatively close to us. I think the third one has to be my favorite. I really liked the almost “rusitc-ness” that they had playing in a parking lot. I also found myself being very intrigued with what was happening throughout and I also liked the drumming rhythm that seemed to stay fairly consistent throughout. I never thought of drum line as a sport, but as I did this homework, and I was thinking about my friends, I am realizing it most definitely is!
The weekend after Matty gave his lesson, some of my good friends were competing in the ADLA Championships! My sister, some friends, and I all drove down to Long Beach to spend the day together and support them — And extra fun, they came in first for their division! Here are some pictures from our night!
