It appears that for most people (60%) the gig / freelance economy is primarily about workers gaining control of their secondary work schedule. They probably have a primary employer who dictates a weekly work schedule and then the worker fills in extra hours with short shifts of work from secondary employers or customers. The unknown is will there continue to be primary employers or will they discover they can operate without specifically dedicated employees.

After all, many hospital emergency rooms are staffed with contract physician.
