don’t EVER say you are sorry…sorry implies you have done something wrong…interjecting your opinion is important, vital…if i may suggest, say “excuse me”…but never sorry…
i used to be a general manager for a chain of retail stores who were run and owned by a very large male populace, and when i would notice the interactions between the men and the women, i was appalled…
this is for all women, don’t ever preface a statement you say with these words, “this may sound weird or stupid…” DON’T…i cannot tell you how many times i have heard women say that…your statement has just as much validity as the next…this behavior has been handed to us, it is a social script…these scripts are created to define how women are to act, in social, sexual situations.. Scripts refer to social functions. They dictate what one should be doing at a particular time and in a particular place if one is to play the role characteristically associated with that script (thanks wiki) think of all the times you were going to say something, possibly unsure of yourself…and you said, “this may sound weird…”
another thing, in the presence of men, DO NOT TALK IN A LITTLE GIRL VOICE…women will raise the tone of their voice and act in a coy way…i’ve seen it…stand up straight, speak with conviction in your voice, believe in what you say..don’t cater to the script of being demure..you are in the workplace, dominated by a male workforce…
you may be called a bitch, but at least you will KNOW your self-worth…
