“LET ME SLEEP”

My friend Sam loves to travel all the time. It does not matter where he is heading and to which destination he will stop and stay. He has to travel without a break and pause. Sometimes, I feel that he has a steel body that does not tire off. Distance and spans don’t bother him but the sleep does. He doesn’t care for the mode of travel whether it is by air, train, sea, or on foot. “Travelling is good but traveling too much becomes harmful for health”, this piece of advice never stirred him. I think Sam does not care even his health and prefers his hobby above all. The only thing he does not compromise is his craze for traveling and sleep. He often tells me that there is no better addiction than sleep when you travel. Let me share an interesting but funny incident.

It was Friday evening of September 2009 when Sam got his berth reserved in advance from the nearest Railway Station. Sam was doing a job in a private firm located 800 miles away from his native town and therefore, he had to frequently travel to his home. Sam got on the train well before the time started waiting for departure. The train departed and Sam enjoyed beautiful scenes passing from both sides of the windows. As usual, when the train covered half an hour’s journey, God knows when Sam went into a deep sleep that even an Atomic blast could not wake him from sleep. Nothing on earth has yet been invented that can wake Sam from sleep then what can the train’s noise do? It all depends on how he awakes and when he awakes.

Anyways, Sam had to get off at Point ‘A’ where his house was located but God knows when the train reached and departed for the next destination. Sam woke up at his own will and sat indolent for more than an hour when he looked out through the window. Eventually, the train stopped at the station far away from where he had to offload. Sam asked about the station and it was
Point ‘B’. Quickly Sam got off the train and waited for the next train coming from the other side which could take him again at Point ‘A’. After half an hour the train arrived and Sam got on again. Luckily, he found an empty berth and he lay there. The charm of the sweet journey and cool breeze took him into deep sleep again. This time Sam had to travel an hour only. Even then he went to sleep and again crossed Point ‘A’ and reached far away from his destination. It seemed as if Sam was not traveling but measuring the distance between two points.

This time he awoke not far away from his destination. Immediately, Sam got off at the nearest station and decided not to travel by train now. He rushed out of the railway station and hired a cab. Sam strictly instructed the cab driver “not to cross my destination”. Driver thought what do you mean sir? Soon, Sam realized that he uttered what shouldn’t be uttered. Sam taught him all precautions while driving and inculcated in him the route and exact location of the house before getting into the cab. While wrapping up such a brief and detailed instructional session, Sam requested the cab driver “Please wake me up when you reach my house”
