Story: Gordon’s growing parking problems

Historically Gordon has always been a hard place to find parking. Several failed atempts have been implemented over the years for parking. Due to the surrounding wetlands space is limited for parking expansion. Some space has been added including Woodland and the Gedney/Grace Hall lot, but still commuting students are finding it difficult to find parking spots in the morning. Especially throughout this historic winter parking space was limited evemore so than normal. Limited parking means a few things: parking tickets and cold walks from Woodland. But frankly, no one wants to park in Woodland.

I want to talk to Public Safety to get information about how they handled this winter’s parking problems, how many tickets they issued, and how many insurance cases were opened from people slipping and getting into accidents in the snowy parking lots.

I could also talk to Dr. Boorse who I know is always a big part of Gordon’s environmental advocacy and building decisions. She was a big voice in the parking lot that failed outside of Frost.

I want the story to be focused on what plans administration and public safety have for the future because it seems like commuters, faculty, and staff will be having a hard time parking on campus until something is done; either a new parking lot is built or and old one is extended. The is room to extend the Physical Plant lot and well as the Ferring lot.
