Good morning. The filmmakers that inspired me is Charles and Ray Eames with their film “Power of Ten.” Charles and Ray Eames goal of the film was to help designers interpret and understand a larger context of the world. They used many techniques to develop the film such as a re-framing technique that allows designers to overcome the problems they have at varied magnitudes of framing. Their film helps designers develop a broader understanding of an object which enables designers to develop deeper and better. Also, their film showed the importance of scaling and changed the way people looked at the universe. In my film, I recorded a tree in the middle of the city using the technique: “A series where there are jumps in scale.” I started filming from a very close-up of the tree then zoomed out every 5 metres. As i expand, you notice the buildings around the tree clearly and as i expand, you see the building even more. The purpose of me recording a tree in the city is to help understand that tree and how we look at it, understand the purpose of that tree being there, and understand the importance of scale. This film allowed me to evolve a better interpretation of that tree in the city. It shows how no matter how much buildings there are, they wont take over nature. It also shows how nature plays a big role in the city( in this purpose, the tree is for a decoration). My goal in this film was to help people develop a better understanding of nature as it plays an important role in the city. Thank you.
