Team Taz and why Pro Wrestling is Awesome

Team Taz at its best.

Team Taz is a faction in the wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling. I should say WAS a faction in AEW, after 2 weeks ago the team was no more because of Powerhouse Hobbs betrayal on Ricky Starks. They have been a secure unit for the past two years, being big and mean. However, two weeks ago Ricky lost the FTW title to Taz’s real-life son, Hook, in a match. They then gave each other a fist bump showing there is respect not hatred with how it ended. After the match Ricky got on the mic and gave a fiery promo about how it is his time, and this is a bump in the road, but he will not stop. Only for THEN to have Powerhouse betray Ricky.

I have been a fan of this faction ever since it started on the July 21st episode back in 2020. Just a group of bad men doing bad guy things, everyone loves a bad guy. You had Ricky Starks, refined, elegant, enraged. Powerhouse Hobbs, muscle and pure dominance. Finally, HOOK, “The cold-hearted handsome devil” or “El diablo Guapo” the future of wrestling and son of the coach of Team Taz. In fact, I love this team so much my whole twitter is based on them as a whole… I need to change that now.

Now they are all on separate roads on the journey of pro wrestling. HOOK, FTW champion, holding the belt that his dad made 24 years prior. Ricky Starks on his way to becoming a top name in AEW as a good guy with the backing of the fans. Powerhouse Hobbs, who went from big mean bad guy to EVEN MORE mean and MORE of a bad. Which is why wrestling can be great. Some story development is not as huge as others; however, they mean so much more with the history of each of these guys together. Now, if in a years' time all three mean were to say meet in a rumble match, everyone will wait for the bomb to drop.

One chapter that was a favorite of mine was when Team Taz was trying to recruit Dante Martin. Dante Martin is a highflyer type of wrestler, and I mean HIGH! This man can jump higher than anyone I have seen in a wrestling ring, defying gravity and making everyone else seem more weighted to the ground. With this iteration of Team Taz, we had the Power, the Flight, the Mouth and the Future. However, in the end it was all a ruse by Dante in order to get the one up on Team Taz. Extremely smart on his part, eternally disappointing for myself.
