RCD Mallorca Held By 10-Man Sevilla (0–0) — English Match Review
It’s going to be a long season, y’all.
Even with a 20,000+ crowd behind them at the Son Moix, Mallorca couldn’t muster up much of a fight against an equally terrible Sevilla side who now sit side-by-side with Los Piratas (13th & 14th) in the La Liga table. (side note/ EVERY team below us has a game in hand…*nervously gulps San Miguel*).
“Trust the process!”, “Wait until the transfer window shuts!”, I yell at myself in the mirror. “Looking a bit grey up top!” (that one wasn’t football related).
2 points out of a possible 9 now for Mallorca, who after a surprisingly great opener against Real Madrid have failed to impress since — losing 1–0 to Osasuna and now a bore draw against Sevilla who are so poor that no company wants to even be their shirt sponsor!
A tale of two halves, with Lukebakio and Ejuke in particular looking threatening in the first half for Sevilla who controlled at the break. But it was Mallorca who should’ve finished off their chances in the second, our #7 Muriqi denied by a brilliant save from Nyland, while Sevilla were reduced to ten men in stoppage time when Saúl was sent off for being a sod to the reff.
The draw, as it was against Real Madrid, was the right result judging by the performances of both sides. Neither took chances well, both sat back and tried to counter which was anti-productive.
FYI, extra time, when Doménech did not finish off a great cross from Samu in the six-yard box… I don’t want to talk about it. I’d feel sick.
Less possession, less shots, less chances… More fouls, more saves. It aint looking great, fellas!
But, as I told @RCDMallorcaUK, a weekend turnaround would lift spirits. More clinical finishing, and we’re well on our way. Perhaps lacking a bit of flair on the wings too… Let’s have some transfer activity this week ey?
The games come thick and fast! Next up is a possible banana skin away game against Leganes in Madrid on Saturday night.
VAMOS MALLORCA! 🔴⚫️
