The function of the artist: a manifesto pt. 1

The artist creates vulnerability.
Vulnerability through the exhibition or distribution of their work.

The audience sees this vulnerability, and recognises this, often subconsciously, as an intangible sincerity to the artform.

This is what makes art "good".
An artist lays thier heart out for public scrutiny. The heart is on the chopping block, so to speak, and the viewer has the cleaver. It is within this delicate balance, this hideous beauty, that the viewer recognises, and cherishes the artform.

The viewer sees the other life, can reach out and touch it, but chooses not to. Instead chooses to stand by, and peak through this keyhole, watch the beautiful chaos of someone else’s life unfold and metamporphosize.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
