MidTerm Project/Exam
Chosen Gallery:
Kaida Contemporary
I like this gallery because the artworks seems to be very diversified but for me, the only problem is that I didn’t see the title beside the paintings so as a viewer, I am not sure whether or not I am grasping the artist’s idea right since the title gives us a clue on what the painting is about.
a)

I think this artwork means that every little thing in this world can be used to make an artwork;these things doesn’t only include expensive and beautiful ones to be able to create an artwork: the animals, toys, cartoon characters, everyday objects, etc., may affect one’s artistic style. These things can be used as an inspiration for artworks and can also be included in the artwork itself.
b)

I think this artwork means that in our country, the Philippines, artworks vary from region to region; the definition of art in each region is different from each other and they are all uniquely beautiful. These artwork are greatly influenced by the culture and beliefs that the region has.
c)

I think that this artwork wants to convey that we, because of the development the we made in this world like our creations and advancement in technology, we are giving the animals and nature a hard time because of our want/urge to develop and be commercialize, we are often forgetting to care for other important things in this world.
2)
Filipino Artists
a) Ronald Ventura (Shadow Forest: Encounters and Explorations)

I think that the overall theme of this gallery is how we are similar and how different to animals in this world. It is said that we are the highest form of animal and in the artworks, I think that it says that in each of us, there is an animal or the natural instinct to survive, to protect our interests, to further or bloodline, etc.
b) Jose Tence Ruiz (BENCH)

I think this gallery is focusing on Filipinos’ creativity and resourcefulness. It shows that because of scarcity of some resources in our country, we were able to create necessary things out of “almost trash” things.
