“….. meritocracy trumps caste and religion, where people can cross social class lines through hard-work and determination.” Is not the alleged corruption that pervades India a bigger problem? After all I am sure that most people will agree that this caste/social problem mostly becomes irrelevant when people get financial security and the best way to help people get that is by making government services work properly which, going by what I read, are very inefficient due to the alleged corruption. And if financial security is not achieved people will any way be in misery whether they face these caste/social problems or not. Any views on this?
