So I vow to train my brain to return to its former glory.

I wrote a piece last year upon realizing I’d lost my ability to deep read this way. For the last eight months, I’ve been taking time every day away from screens to read short stories, and try to retrain my brain to get lost in them. I’d say my focus has improved, but it’s still nothing like it was in my childhood/teen years. Even when I’m really enjoying the language, what’s missing (or at least seriously lacking, compared to childhood) is the ability to visualize the scene. I’m always aware of myself sitting there looking at black text on a white page. Zero absorption. If you succeed in training your brain, share your techniques, please! I need all the help I can get! :0)
