What do we offer them when their demands are for the right to harm and denounce other people and groups?
Read Laurn W. Bedingfield’s response to my response to you:
Now replace “Christians” with “Muslims,” or “Blacks,” or “Gays.”
The Left in this country is hysterical about Christians, in exactly the same way the Right is hysterical about Muslims. The reality is that, practicing or not, 75% of Americans identify as Christians. If three out of four Americans believed what Laurn Bedingfield says they do, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. We would live in Gilead. So MOST Christians don’t believe that. And the Left is too lazy to sort them out. The American Left is doing to Christians what White bigots do to Blacks. They are grouping them all together under one stereotype and refusing to see any nuance. They are dismissing them as a group instead of dealing with them as human beings.
What do we offer “them” when “their” demands are for the right to harm and denounce others?”
Well, to those Christians who actually demand those things, we offer a cold shoulder. But then we actively, openly, and lovingly reach out to the many sincere Christians who do not demand these things and offer them a seat at the table — without requiring them to renounce their Christianity in the process. The bigotry on the Left is the assumption that there are no Christians who do not demand these things. And when the Left assumes that to be true, they force Christians of good conscience to stand withe the haters. That’s just a terrible strategy. And it’s every bit as immoral as racism, Islamophobia, misogyny, or homophobia.
The actual long term solution to this, IMHO, is that Christians must clean their own house. The good Christians need to reclaim the label “Christianity” from the bad ones. I see that as something very likely to happen in the wake of the fall of Trump. Everything wrong about the Christianity/GOP merger of the ’80s has been pushed into the light by this presidency. If the Left does not allow that internal correction to take place, they have nobody to blame but themselves for the outcome.
