Jack’s Rating: Night Lights

My name is Jack Russillo and I’m a college freshman who just moved to the big city (Seattle) from a small town in the middle of nowhere. Every day I rate something on a scale of 1 to 100.
I remember a time of old, when monsters could be hiding in the closet or under the bed. I recollect being comforted by one thing, and one thing only: a night light.
Back when I was child, I was certainly scared of the dark. I required a night light in my room while I slept, and an additional one in the hallway on my way to the bathroom. But, of course, I’d also have to have one in the bathroom in case I made it there safely. Let there be light, right?
Thankfully, now that I’m older and have matured a bit, I no longer need a night light. And not for many years, I might add.
Night lights are comforting to the ones that need them. I understand that; they can be quite soothing. But, for us older folk, I don’t want there to be any light in my room when I’m trying to sleep. It’s a little distracting.

Plus, now that I live in a big city, it’s never dark anymore. All this stupid light pollution keeps me up sometimes — and certainly frightens away the monsters under the bed — and so I definitely don’t need a night light. I will admit, however, that sometimes they do look pretty neat.
Actually, as far as I can tell, the only time it’s alright to have a night light past the age of 12 is in the hallway to see. And that’s only for people who don’t live in the city.
Jack’s Rating: 41/100
Pro: A little extra light isn’t completely awful…
Con: Unless I’m trying sleep because I actually have important things to do now that I’m an adult.
