The Craziness of the 2015 NCAA Tournament Bracket

My name is Jack Russillo and I’m a college freshman who just moved to the big city (Seattle) from a small town in the middle of nowhere. Every day I rate something on a scale of 1 to 100.

It’s that time of the year again!

March Madness has arrived and this year’s college basketball tournament is going to be a little crazier than ever.

While there’s a pretty clean-cut favorite to win the tournament this year in the Kentucky Wildcats, there are sure to be plenty of drama-filled match-ups throughout the rest of the tournament as well.

The fact that Kentucky is such an overwhelming favorite to win, and that there’s not really a clear second-place team to go against them, is crazy. I think that Kentucky will win it all and be the first men’s college basketball team to go 40–0 in a season. People across the country are arguing whether their final game will be against Duke, Virginia, Gonzaga, Villanova or whoever they meet up with in the tournament finale.

My personal vote is Duke, but if I were to ask anybody else who they thought would play in the final against Kentucky, they’d most likely give you some other team. It’s that unpredictable this year!

And, when it comes to larger-scaled athletic tournaments, like the NCAA tournament, unpredictability is one of the factors that makes it so entertaining. Who doesn’t love a good upset? Ya know, when David does the impossible and beats Goliath? The underdog story is an interesting one, and there’s certain to be some good upsets in this tournament.

Maybe even 13th seeded Eastern Washington and the nation’s leading scorer, Tyler Harvey, rise up to beat 4th seeded Georgetown? Or there’s even the possibility of 12th seeded Stephen F Austin (yes, that’s a college) pulling the upset over 5th seeded Utah, who’s really been digressing in the last part of the season — they’ve lost four of their last seven games.

I haven’t paid nearly as much attention to college basketball this year as I have in years past. It’s a tragedy. But that also means that I can go into this tournament as a fairly clueless viewer with only my knowledge of the past to help me out.

At least Barack Obama, our President of the United States, has carved out his own time to create his own infamous bracket for the tourney, and he picked Kentucky to win it all too!

Barack Obama’s actual tournament bracket

So, as the bulk of the tournament begins today, I will sit back and watch yet another basketball-filled day and just wait for the craziness to begin.

I just can’t wait for the later part of the tournament, because that’s when things are going to get real interesting.

The Rating: 62/100

Pro: Anybody’s bracket could have Kentucky reaching the finals, and everything else is almost just a toss-up, and that never happens.

It’s that crazy.

Con: There aren’t a huge amount of especially exciting match-ups in the bracket this year and, aside from Kentucky, no team looks poised to win it all.
