Google Taking Over the World

One of my favourite cartoon characters is Brain from the cartoon series “Pinky and the Brain”. It’s two mice, one (Pinky) is dump and the other (Brain) is a genius hence the name. This post came about asking myself: what is the one thing that you cannot do with Google as far as computer technology is concerned?

Although Google operates mostly on the internet, but lets face it, today we do everything on the internet. We buy, sell, communicate and stream. Here some scenarios of our daily problems and Google provides a solution:

  • We communicate via emails and social networks = Gmail, Google+, Hangouts
  • We want to surf the internet/web = Google Chrome Browser
  • We want to know or research something = Google Search
  • We travel to places and sometimes may need to find a place = Google Maps
  • We work mostly with documents in the office = Google Docs/Drive
  • We are so attached and always using our mobile devices = Google Android, Nexus
  • We entertain ourselves with music = Google Play Music All Access, YouTube
  • We watch TV but wish we could control what we want to watch = Google TV
  • We are usually on-the-go and forget about things to get done. Needing a reminder on our mobile devices / emails = Google Calender
  • We need computers that boot so quick and do whatever we need to do = Google Chromebook, Chrome OS

Ok surely you see alternatives for the above points, but I’m also positive that you prefer 80% of Google’s over the others. The obvious one would be Google Search over Bing/Yahoo; and although Vimeo happens to be my favourite video-streaming site (UI/UX wise), I will still go for YouTube because it has most videos.

And Google doesn’t seem to stop, they recently launched something small called “Google Keep”. They focus more on what we need everyday. I have just realised how one needs this app because as people we get so busy and always get new ideas to build or improve something in our lives. So Google Keep lets you QUICKLY jot down that idea and save it on the cloud (Google Drive). Now, there are also rumours that Google is planning to manufacture their own hardware with regards to mobile devices and PCs just like Apple and Microsoft. Well that rumour makes sense with the acquisition of Motorola. Now friends, I wish in 10 years time or so, you will remember this post of how I predicted that Google will run the world if they continue to build great products like they are doing right now. My thoughts on Google Glass? Well that’s amazing innovation but still too early to adjust to controlling things with just your eyes and voice. In a nutshell, I believe you can survive using only Google products/services over its rivals considering that most of them are FREE. And oh… I’m not paid to talk positively about Google. These are just facts!

Pinky: “So what are we doing tonight Brain?”
Brain: “Same thing we do every night Pinky, Googlin’!”
