Why the Redskins need to get Hightower
Today the sports world found out that Super Bowl champion New England Patriots will not use their franchise tag on stud linebacker Dont’a Hightower. This is bad news for Patriot fans, but great news for the rest of the NFL.
Hightower has been one of the most dominant players on the Patriots defense and now he is able to bring those talents to another city. I am here to tell why he would be the perfect fit for the Washington Redskins.
Washington was not a dominant force in the NFL, they were a top 5 offense this year, but what killed them was defense. They were just missing a few players that could turn them into a solid defense. They made a strong effort last offseason in signing pro bowl cornerback Josh Norman. Altough some say Norman didn’t play to his full potential this year most will agree he had a solid year with a new young team that is still learning. The Redskins linebackers are not terrible with Pro bowler Ryan Kerrigan who has been a fantastic pass rusher for his career witht he Redskins, and young Preston Smith out of Mississippi State.
The Redskins have some money to spend this offseason, why not pay top dollar for a elite linebacker? Hightower is also young at only 26, he would be able to bring leadership to the young redskins defense that is needed. Although bringing in Hightower may not be the final fix all for the subpar Washington defense I think it is one hell of a start. The Redskins have many valuable young players that are ready to step up in the defense along with the many draft picks the Redskins have this year. If the Redskins can build their defensive line through the draft and sign Hightower in free agency I would bet that they might be considred the favorites of the NFC East by many people.
