At Security Token Market, our community is our family. Therefore, we are continuing our Featured Community Members of the Month Series to showcase this and highlight our extraordinary community members!

Featured Community Members are selected for their high engagement, drive, active participation in our Discord, and the unique perspective they bring to the security token space.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to share a little about Johnney Zhang and how he made a name for himself in real estate development before venturing into tokenization with United States Property Coin (USPC).

To continue our series, today I will share with you another invaluable community member that is working with Johnney and the team at USPC. His name is…

Chris Dobson!

Chris is the Community Manager for United States Property Coin, a new security token project based out of Los Angeles, CA.

He grew up in sunny California, where he graduated as a Banana Slug from a University with arguably the best mascot in the entire world (University of California, Santa Cruz).

After completing his undergrad at UCSC, Chris moved back down to SoCal, where he attended Chapman Law School on a full tuition scholarship. Despite not completing his postgraduate studies, he believes his education and subsequent work experience played a huge role in how he started an exciting new career in the emerging blockchain industry.

His first interaction with crypto was in 2014 when his college roommate suggested he look into buying Bitcoin. However, at the time, Chris recalls, “I didn’t quite understand the technology and the impact it could have on society,” so he didn’t take the plunge just yet.

That all changed in 2020 when Chris and a flood of new investors jumped down the blockchain rabbit hole when the world paused for COVID-19.

The shift to online communities and specifically to Web3 communities during the pandemic was staggering across the globe. At this point, Chris knew a massive change was undeniably underway and wanted to be a part of it. So, while continuing his day job as a Paralegal, Chris spent most of his time at home online, building his knowledge base and network in the blockchain industry.

Throughout the pandemic, Chris became more involved with Web3 projects and found a passion for doing exciting, creative work with global teams. After living a self-proclaimed “sleep-deprived degen-lifestyle” trading in the 2021 bull market, Chris was fortunate enough to leave his position as a paralegal to pursue opportunities in the crypto space full-time.

With his self-motivated Web3 experience and legal background, Chris joined a security token project that led him to the STM Community!

This project was United States Property Coin (USPC), and Chris has served as their Community Manager since May 2022. United States Property Coin is a unique tokenized real estate project funded and managed by Primior, a leading real estate development and asset management firm based in Southern California. By leveraging the underlying innovation of blockchain technology, USPC tokens will function as fractionalized ownership in a diversified portfolio that is expected to benefit from current income and long-term appreciation of core real estate assets!

Before joining the USPC team in May 2022, Chris wasn’t familiar with security tokens. However, the more he learned about tokenization, the more excited I became about their potential to assist in the mainstream adoption of blockchain. When Chris started working with USPC, the company was looking to gain more exposure and help educate people on the opportunities available to investors with security tokens. It was this mission that ultimately led Chris to the STM Community. As a result, Chris joined the STM Discord server, through which he initiated a relationship between USPC and STM. We at STM are enthusiastic about continuing to work with USPC to help the tokenization industry prosper.

As Chris got his foothold in the industry, he was continually astounded by the stark difference in regulatory adherence when utilizing blockchain between cryptocurrencies and security tokens. He believes the additional protections provided to early-stage investors will be crucial in the development of the industry.

Chris believes the groundwork laid over the past decade in the tokenization industry offers some beneficial use cases for our growing digital economy. Furthermore, realizing these benefits involves a shift in the current financial infrastructure. However, Chris believes we should focus on what made our financial system thrive for the last century and then apply our new technology instead of trying to outright replace them (as tokenization does).

It is my honor to feature Chris this month, and I’m exhilarated to have Chris in our community. I had the opportunity to ask Chris a couple questions about his start in the blockchain space and, ultimately, his experiences in the Security Token Market Community. His answers can be found below:

(Jackson) Q: Can you highlight your favorite current blockchain project?

(Chris) A: I want to highlight the STM Crowdfunding Project. As it is a representation of everything STM does. STM is the largest security token: channel, advocate, educator, etc. — tokenizing themselves, because they can, is just another example of how the technology can be used.

Although there are too many considerations to predict the mass-adoption of security tokens, it sure is encouraging to see the development and legal solutions beginning to form.

In my humble opinion, STM plays a huge role in security token adoption, which plays an even bigger role in crypto adoption.

(Jackson) Q: What is your favorite Security Token Market content?

(Chris) A: Your STM Crowdfunding Project, “tokenizing yourselves”, and building Wall Street Without Walls!

(Jackson) Q: Where can we find you?

(Chris) A: LinkedIn (Personal)
