How to Fix System Errors with Mac OS X Snow Leopard’s First Aid
Mac operating system X Snow Leopard offers a First Aid pane. This OS feature of Disk Utility lets you check any kind of disk errors, as well as repair any errors that it detected. Here are the two exceptions when the buttons get disabled:-
1. The start-up disk: Disk Utility won’t repair the start-up disk, if you think about it then you came to know, because that drive is currently being used.
If you have multiple OS on multiple disks drives, you can boot from another Mac OS X installation on another drive to know your current start-up disk. Or you can boot your machine from the original Mac OS installation DVD and run Disk Utility from the Installation menu.
2. Write-protected disks: Although you are free to use the Disk Utility to verify Cds/ DVDs, but Disk Utility can’t repair them. You generally can’t repair a disk that are currently being used. If you’re running an application from a drive or you’ve opened a document that’s stored on that volume, you probably can’t repair that volume.
In order to repair or verify, you must be logged in as an administrator
You can also select to repair or verify the privileges on a disk. If face trouble in saving or moving the file then quickly checks drives for permission. However, you can’t fix disk errors on a boot HD, but you can repair and verify permissions on any drives that contains a Mac OS X installation.
