The Leavers video
Highlights of 6th form
Every year, a leavers video is shown at the leavers ball, as part of a memory for everyone to watch and look back at how much fun we all had during the 2 years at 6th form.
This year, I did the leavers video, which I thought it was a great opportunity, as I love making new films, as well as making it entertaining for people. Originally I thought it wasn’t going to be that bad, but when I started thinking about what I was going to do for this film, I struggled.
I only had clips off my iPhone, which I started off using, but it wasn’t enough. I then had to write down a structure to the video, so that I would know what I would be showing within my film. I then asked people from my year to send me video clips and baby pictures of themselves.
I forgot to mention that during the time I was editing this together, I had to balance my coursework and exams revision, so it wasn’t as easy as I would have hoped.
Where I got my ideas from —
In one part of the film, Emily starts talking about what she would miss about Sibford (Interview part). After that, the song ‘Let me take a selfie’ comes on, with text and pictures syncing in time with the beat. I got this idea from my friends in Media, as we were trying to think of funny ideas. When the idea got mentioned, I thought it was a brilliant idea and I said that I would be able edit that.
I got the ‘Top 3 — music videos’ idea from just watching TV/videos online e.g. Rude Tube, You’ve been framed etc. To make it even more entertaining, I got the assistant head of 6th form to do the voiceover (acting as the presenter). The only part I found hard when editing this, was the 3D rotation of the school’s logo. But eventually, I was happy enough with the final outcome.

My favourite part has to be the scene where Harri raises his eyebrows (where I slowed down the clip) with the text ‘The Lady Killer’. Partly because I knew people would find it funny and the song (‘Yello — Oh yeah’) went well with it.
Lastly, I decided that the Instanbul scene would finish off the film as it wouldn’t need a song edited in the background and I thought it worked well.
Other ideas came from myself, but near the end of the film, I originally felt it was finished. Then on the day of when my film was going to be shown, my girlfriend mentioned some other ideas to what I could do, which I thought was good, and then I edited them in (which didn’t take too long). Then after that, I finished editing it!
