My First 100 Downloads

On July 28th I published the trailer for “My Social Life”, the podcast I had wanted to put out for months. I followed that up two days later with the first full episode and have had the target of putting out a new episode every two weeks.

I sit here now in the beginning of September, with three full episodes plus a trailer and I have officially surpassed 100 downloads! Although in the grand scheme of things 100 downloads is not a lot, it is a milestone on the way (hopefully) to more and more milestones.

I have only been doing this podcast for a short amount of time but have already had some amazing things happen.

Firstly, the guests I have had on have been awesome. Of the three people on, I knew the first guest, Hayden a good friend of mine but the two after, Mathieu and Josh, I had not met, and would not have met had it not been for the podcast. My Social Life provides a platform for me to reach out to these people and sit down and have a full, at length conversation.

I have also had friends and family support the podcast that I did not expect. I have had former teachers reach out about the podcast, saying it will be a resource they would show their students, co-workers have mentioned how they’ve talked with other co-workers about it, a good friend of mine offered up her camera to use for the video recording to help improve the visual quality (haven’t used it yet but will for the next episode_, and more. It has been awesome to see all of my friends and family support the show.

In terms of the video production of the podcast, it definitely is the part that takes the most time but extremely important to the marketing. I film and edit the entire hour to hour and half long episode and then use that to cut down to short one minute, subtitled clips to promote it on social media.

Instagram has been the primary platform for promotion so far and I have made several connections there. Since the beginning I have been messaging every single person that follows the account, thanking them and letting them know that I appreciate it, which I do. I want to scale this podcast so every single person that joins in and follows along helps to further achieve that goal. From messaging these people I have made some pretty neat connections, from learning different tips from someone with their own digital agency, been (sort of) offered a position as a digital marketer for a start up production company, and talked to quite a few other people about the industry and growing online.

I have even had a person who I had hoped to get on the podcast follow me on Twitter as a result of seeing clips I’d posted. When I reached out to ask if they’d like to be on the show, they said they’d seem the clips and would love to be on the show!

On top of all that, because of my podcast, I have been invited to be on someone else’s podcast. They found it through one of my guests and invited me on because they’re looking to get other podcasts on their show. Crazy!

All of this to say that, although I have only been doing this a short time and my reach is minimal, the podcast has opened the door to possibilities that would not have occurred had it not been for the show. All the time and energy I am using to produce the episode hasn’t been for nothing. Despite the work, I am having a ton of fun and learning a lot along the way.

This has already been quite the ride and I’m excited to see what the future holds as this grows. I have some big plans and I intend to execute on them. If you haven’t listened to my podcast and would like to, you can by clicking here. Thank you to everyone that has listened so far 100 downloads already is amazing, here’s to the next 900. See you at 1000.
