When you wake up tomorrow morning, ask yourself this question: Where do I want to be in my life? Where do I want to go? Chances are, you’re not there. If fact, you’ll have to get used to that idea, because you’ll never be there. Because once you’re there, you have a higher level of achievement to reach.
How do you get from where you are to where you want to be? The simple answer: Show up. If I’ve learned anything in my 21 years, it’s that accomplishing your goals starts with showing up.
What does that mean? It means to be present and active in everything you do, everyday. Whether it’s school, work, relationships or projects — you have to show up.
I guarantee there will be a voice in your head trying to persuade you to take the day off. You can just catch up on the work tomorrow, right? No one really cares what I do. Don’t listen to it. Don’t deceive yourself. How are you going to accomplish your goals by putting them off?
Just remember, when you’re lying in bed deciding whether or not to call in sick, there are millions of other people doing the opposite. No matter their circumstance they’re willing to give it a shot.
There are a lot of people who will only be dreamers and a handful who will be doers. Will you tell yourself that you’re too tired? Too sick? Or will you be honest with yourself and shrug off your laziness?
Everyday you are presented with that choice along with a smorgasbord of excuses not to show up.
Believe me, I know it’s a struggle. I battle myself every day and weigh the costs of my choices. I don’t always choose the best one, but I’m working on it. Life is about reaching for those goals, no matter how many stumbling are put in our way. Keep reaching, keep fighting.
Remember: Showing up is what separates the greats from everyone else.
