The Fall of Phaethon, Johann Liss

Phaethon is an ambitious, decadent man. He craves the limelight, the adulation of his friends as well as strangers. He grew up not knowing his father, but upon his death, Phaethon inherited his vast fortune. He used his wealth to catapult himself further towards stardom. Phaethon either didn’t realize or was purposely ignorant to the danger he poses to himself, his friends, and even strangers.

The entire world has become so enthralled by his celebrity that now society is on the verge of collapse. He bribes his friends and enemies, promising wealth, power, and fame for merely succumbing to his cult. So bad is the problem that murder and betrayal have become commonplace: anything to imitate the god of Phaethon. Any news is good news.

The world wilts as the star of Phaethon burns hotter and hotter, the flame’s fuel fixed from free greed. It is time to extinguish the Sun. Should that mean a cold death in the frosty void, certainly the catastrophe of action is superior to the tragedy of apathy.

The heart that is humanity beats irregularly, and it needs a shock to the system to save it before it gives out. The thunderbolt of Zeus is desperately needed. Only through extreme measures can the crises of individualism and capitalism be averted.
