How can the Texans Offense improve?

The Texans Offense and Offensive Coordinator Bobby Slowik had their fair share of struggles in week 1. There were also good signs like the WR room showing some life and CJ Stroud having an encouraging debut vs a great Ravens defense, but only scoring 9 points in the NFL just isn’t gonna cut it. There are a few things that I believe could help this Texans team improve on offense and put up some points to help out this defense.

The first and maybe most obvious one is FEED DAMEON PIERCE. Pierce was almost a 1k rusher as a rookie behind a poor offensive line and there is no sign of his play or vision slowing down. Pierce only getting 11 carries in a game where you had a rookie QB in his first game and a rain environment vs a very good defense was shocking to me. I fully expect the Texans to feed Pierce this weekend vs the Colts and he will produce. Even with an injured offensive line Pierce’s vision, balance and elusiveness will help him make something out of nothing like he did all last season. I think the Texans will give Pierce 20+ carries this weekend vs the Colts.

Another thing I would like to see the Texans do is STOP ROLLING STROUD TO THE LEFT! He is a right handed QB and I am consistently confused why almost all of the rollouts are to the left. For right handed Quarterbacks it is easier to throw going to your right so you are not throwing across your body but the Texans staff doesn’t seem to understand that. They have rolled to the left multiple times in every single game so far and it is just completely bizarre.

I also think taking some shot plays and hopefully connecting on them could help this offense massively. With Tank Dell seeing more and more snaps and John Metchie back for the game Sunday, there should be more opportunities to take advantage of speed and hit some deep shots. Being able to hit some shots down the field could lead to an easier run game and the 10–15 yard stuff over the middle open up more. The Texans Offense has seriously lacked explosiveness over the past few seasons and hopefully this offense can be able to catch some of that with some big time plays in these upcoming games.

I do believe this is the best Texans offense we have seen since 2020 pretty easily. It may take some time but I do believe that eventually the offense will find its identity and start to click. The main key right now is just to get healthy and see what you have with your younger pieces and everything should figure out itself!
