Response to “leap” by Bryan Doyle
As heavy as that story was, it was definitely worth the read. There aren’t very many people who don’t get emotional when they start talking about the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the world trade center, it is definitely a piece of history that will be remembered for those who lost their lives, and those who sacrificed their lives to save others. This puts a spin on the history piece of it and tells the stories from other perspectives of people who saw the people in the towers trying to escape any way they could. I couldn’t even imagine how hard it was to have to witness that. As children, adults, or anything in between no one should ever have to see something like that and know that there is nothing they can do to help. Not being able to help someone at all is one of the most helpless feelings I have ever experienced. It leaves you with a sense of guilt, a. “what if I had just…” thought that never goes away. But as hard as it is, you just have to move on with life. And I don’t mean that in any sort of insensitive way, because what those people saw would be by no means easy to experience or move past. I just am saying that in life you will have countless moments where you are stuck on the past, or wishing it was different, but holding on to those ideas when there is no longer anything to do just hurts you more.
