Purpose

By learning a few simple commands you can move between directories and create, move, rename, and delete folders and files, all without even touching your mouse. The ability to manipulate files and folders from the terminal can make you feel powerful and will leave you excited to learn more.

pwd

Shows your current directory

ls

Lists folders and files in your current or specified directory. If nothing is in the directory, nothing will be returned. Be sure to add a file or folder if your current directory is empty.

cd

Changes your directory to the directory specified. If followed by two periods cd will take you up one level

mkdir

Adds a new folder with a name that you specify

touch

Adds a new file with a name and extension that you specify

mv

Moves a file or folder to the specified location

rm

Deletes a file that you specify

rmdir

Deletes a folder that you specify. It will not delete a folder that is not empty.

clear

Clears the screen

help

Provides a list of commands. If a command is specified after help then help will provide information on that specific command.
