Sin within Sports

I am writing this blog as a student here at Lancaster Bible College that is going to write about sports. This blog is something close to my heart because I am here studying sport management, but also pursuing a degree in Biblical Studies. We see many different sins within sports like fame, money, pride, foul language, steroid and drug use, betting, etc. These are just a few sins that are within the sports world. Fame and money usually come from professional athletes, but the other sins come from every level of sports. My passion is in sport, and I am looking to pursue a career in sport so this blog will help me with my future ministry in sport.

We see a lot in the sports realm right now about sports betting. All the news reports are on sports betting right now. This is happening right now because betting in the sports world is booming right now. In the second part of Tripp's book, it covers the topic on money. I will cover this topic more once we get to those chapters in the Tripp book.

Chapter two of the Tripp book stuck out to me was that the most important word from the Bible is “In the beginning God”. Tripp explained to us that you will not understand yourself or even life without understanding these four words. One of the main reasons a lot of sinning happens in sports is because a lot of athletes don’t know or understand what the first four words of the Bible are. The book gave six implications regarding this situation, but a lot of athletes don’t understand this because they don’t know anything about the Bible and didn’t grow up in the church. Most athletes don’t know where they get their talents and abilities, but we know they come from the Lord. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This is one of many verses in the Bible explaining why we were created.

A lot of people love sports and the entertainment that sports provide, but a lot of people don’t realize the ungodliness within the sport world. A lot of people in this world look up to professional athletes like role models and even gods. In reality they are just another human being that does same thing that we all do the only thing that is different is that they're on tv and make a good amount of money. Throughout this semester I will be explaining and talking about some of the worldly things that happen in sport. I will also use the books that we are reading for this class to relate to these worldly issues in sport.
