Manners Make a Man and Woman
Being a decent person on the internet.
The internet has become such a useful resource for our society. Its become such a huge platform that millions of people use and are so dependent on. Most of us probably use it on a daily basis and for many purposes whether it’s for social media, school, or work. Many of us are using the internet everyday, so it’s only fair that we address some netiquette (online etiquette) in the digital world.

As a daily user, here are some helpful netiquette that I think every user should be aware of , so that you can avoid being “one of those users”.
1.“The Internet is Forever”. Remember to be cautious with what you say to others and what you post online. Once it is up, everyone has access to it whether it is on a phone or computer. So, be careful with how you are presenting yourself! What you post on the internet is a reflection of yourself.

2. Be Respectful. Remember to think before you hit send. Most of us are probably guilty of doing this, sometimes unintentionally. Being behind the screen gives you a lot of power, freedom, and anonymity. Some people may find it easier to communicate with someone virtually rather than face-to-face.
Remember, before saying something to someone, think if you would say this to them in reality. Just because you are behind the screen, you shouldn’t abuse that power and use it to hurt someone else. Which leads back to the first point, it is a reflection of yourself. Basically, just treat others the way you want to be treated.

3. Be forgiving of others. Some people may be unaware of netiquette, so as a result they may be posting something dumb, like asking a silly question or making a spelling mistake. If you see something minor, just let it slide and think of how you would feel being in their shoes. However, if you do see a comment that is offensive, talk to them privately instead.

4. Don’t Spam. This point is pretty self-explanatory, don’t be a spammer. Some may find it annoying and especially unprofessional for work. Whether it is posting those 10 selfies on Instagram or sending text messages, take it easy before you do so.
5. Don’t be afraid to express opinions/knowledge. The digital world has a lot to offer, and one of those is sharing your knowledge with others or simply expressing yourself. Just ensure you do so in a polite manner and try not to offend anyone. For instance, like writing a review on a food place, if you had a negative experience, let others know, but maybe suggest improvements the restaurant could make! Once again, you are a reflection of what you post, so just be respectful.
6. DON’T TYPE IN ALL CAPS. Remember, typing in all caps means you are shouting/yelling! If you want to emphasize something do so by bolding the text, underling it, or italicizing it. This way, you make your point in a professional manner
7. Be professional and use proper terms. If you are sending an important email, make sure you are addressing them in a polite manner by using proper terms like, Sir/Madam, professor, etc. Also, use proper terms, don’t use slang words or type lyk dis. It’s unprofessional and people will not take you seriously. So make a good impression by ensuring you are using the correct terms.
And that’s a wrap, those are some main netiquette rules that I think you should be aware of and follow. They are easy and dummy proof so you can’t go wrong!
