The Adventures of Rafal & Jacqueline Rudzinski

Rudasaki Do Japan 2016

July 9, 2016

Day 7: We woke up to the rain still pounding on the tin roof. We were going to make a day trip to Enoshima which was a little island with caves and temples, but with the rain we decided to head back to Tokyo switch out our hiking gear and go to Hakone for our reserved private onsen. We had planned on doing the Onsen before heading home, but we just didn’t have it in us to walk around in the rain all day.

Ikuko and Masami made us another traditional breakfast to start our day:

We said goodby to our sweet loft bedroom

Masami took a gorgeous photo of us in his unique room:

We took the Shinkansen back home so we could unpack and go back to Hakone… silly plan but worked out in the end as our rail passes gives us free rides which is cheaper than staying places.

We got to Hakone with time to kill until our reservation from 7–9pm.

We walked around Hakone, which reminded me of Downtown Breckenridge, Colorado. Lots of cute shops, tourists, bridges etc.

We found a random place to eat and both got Curry Soba, not the greatest dish in the world but filling and warm, perfect for the weather we were in.

The view made the meal worth it as we sat overlooking the river.

We headed back towards the bus stop area to head towards Hakone Yuryou

Once we got to the resort, everyone was very friendly, got us our room and it was time to relax! They had traditional Japanese slippers in the room, and the room led to the outdoor onsen

You’re supposed to wash before going in

We got the private onsen because we both had tattoos and were worried about getting kicked out of the public bath area.

The onsen was about 40 degrees celsius (104F) and was perfect with the cooler mountain air. We spent 2 relaxing hours in the onsen

And headed home via Shinkansen to Tokyo where we stayed for the night.

We had planned to leave early in the morning for Kyoto. It was a wonderful day, lots of train navigating but relaxing relative to how our days have been!

Oyasumi!
