Why actively listening and learning from the folks in their eighties and nineties is such a no-brainer for me.

Yes, we need to pay attention to those who have done “life” and are still doing it, in style.

The younger ones have much to learn and our elders are veritable fonts of knowledge, a fact that many people often ignore, particularly those who are part of the “smart, young set”.

Some of them would even go as far as to ridicule “the olds” because they think that they aren’t savvy enough to embrace this new world that we are living in.

But these short-term thinkers really don’t know the breath of information, effective strategies and sheer real world examples of what works and what doesn’t, that they are missing out on.

These elders, especially the ones who have enjoyed financial, career and familial success, have wisdom to impart to us and if we were wise, we’d let them.

I can tell you that I availed myself of these people whenever I could when I was younger and even though I am not of the younger set, I am just not part of the old, old yet.

Years ago the father of a casual aquaintance, a “self-made multi” I call him, told me that I shouldn’t even consider fancy stocks.
