Why I’m breaking up with sustainability
Tara Holmes

Tara, I understand your frustration but you do not seem to address the core issue. What are we trying to sustain. Nature does not need us but we need nature to function for us, assuming we want to survive. The key to a positive future is to stop wanting to consume more as a sign of progress otherwise as more and more the of the 7 and growing billion people have better consumption power we will continue to outgrow the planet and leave less for other species and ultimately leave us with not enough of something or many things.

When growth and progress is such a key societal motivator in Western, particular UK and US culture, this is hard. It means we need to be happy with what we had and should aim to want less, goods, degrees, trips, experiences, status, etc.

Even arch sustainability champions seem to want more of something it looks like
