6 months after IronHack, 2 UX/UI designer jobs, lots of takeaways.

1. Same job, different tools

When you’re done with IronHack, you will be a Sketch king, same with MarvelApp, InVision or Zeplin.

My experience before

In 2017 I graduated from a Business School after a master in Marketing. My first job experience was as an e-commerce manager for a small French shoe brand. Then I decided to pursue as an e-learning and mobile learning project manager for luxury brands.

I liked creating solutions, apps or websites, however after giving these to the brands I was not able to track how the users were interacting with it, if they were using it at all and what improvement could be made.

Only being able to manage designers and developpers wasn’t enough, and I wanted to go further…

“What do you do with your old phones?”

You know, the one before your brand new iPhone 24 with a 12" screen?

Some give it back to the brand to get a discount before purchasing a new one, others give it to their family or friends and sometimes they end up taking dust in the closet until they may be of any use (most of the time, it’s never).

Others try to sell it through different plateforms, online or in store but end up becoming a sales person when they don’t have the skills nor the patience to do it.

Then what can you do with it …

They say that it takes 3 weeks to create a routine, they also say that meditation is not about results but about practice.

Practicing meditation can be tricky for the beginner, not really knowing what to do while not seeing any results immediately.

I chose meditation as a subject since I did not really know anything about it. I tried it a few times but could not do make it into a practice and quickly forgot about it.

It was the best subject I could think of for this UX Design Solo Project as I did not have any information…

Following the UX case for Maison Plisson which you can find here, I continued with the UI design of the project.

But first let’s go back to the persona, Mélanie.

The Persona

As a 38 year old consultant in Paris, Mélanie wants to have a healthier lifestyle and eat better products.

Our solution was:

  • An app: since we wanted to make it convenient to order anywhere at any time
  • An online pre prepared basket full of products: In order to get the right thing fast and with new products to discover
  • At home/work quick delivery: To get what you want fast and…

Time to put these lessons to practice !

Maison Plisson

Maison Plisson is a high quality parisian grocery shop founded by Delphine Plisson in 2013. Their offer consists of more than 5000 products from France and Europe.

Maison Plisson’s :

  • The Taste
  • The Quality
  • The Origin
  • The Short supply chain and delivery
  • The Modernity

The Brief

Maison Plisson’s vision is to design a user experience that goes above and beyond the e-commerce marketplace models that Amazon and other competitors (like Walmart) are offering.

They want to add value for their customers by finding a way to leverage their successful premium store model and replicate…

In the process of making us UI/UXdesigners, we started the bootcamp with an introduction to UX design.

What makes the IronHack method so interesting is that each subject seen in class will be used during a group project which we will be working on during the entire bootcamp.

Day 1

After an introduction to what makes the user so important, we got introduced to empathy, the designer’s main caracteristic.

Empathy is the ability to understand someone’s state of mind with no judgement. …

For this final case before starting my IronHack bootcamp, I had to work on a Usability Case Study for a US University and I chose the University of Southern California.

The subject

The University of Southern California is a leading private research university located in Los Angeles — a global center for arts, technology and international business.

It is home to the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and 21 exceptional academic schools and units. USC’s Health Sciences campus houses renowned specialized care and research in cancer, stem cell and regenerative medicine, orthopedics and sports medicine.

The university is the largest private…

This next exercise is an introduction to wireframing prior to my IronHack bootcamp.

The goal here is to do the wireframes for an app already created, Emov, in which the user can rent electric cars for short periods of time.

The app is quite straight forward. A map with the car’s localization, some filters available, a list with the car next to you, a burger menu, a signup and a login page.

The emov app

Then, on sketch, I started to create the wireframes. But at some point I had to reduce the amount of information on the screens. …
