It has taken me a few days to write this — not a good reflection on my ability to blog for the module. Will try harder…

This week I was keen to get the students organised into groups around the themes for their projects. In week 1 I used Padlet to get them to introduce themselves to each other. I started the conversation with a short post and asked students to contribute their own introductions.

The other tutors working on the module posted their introductions and then the students added theirs. 13 of 19 students posted introductions. I think getting staff on there first helped the process, but I didn’t ask students. Will ask them next week.

I then set up another Padlet for ideas and asked each student to post their idea/s for the module. This was quite successful with most students posting something. We took some time during the session on Thursday to get them to add ideas, but there was some difficulty using Padlet on phones.

It took time to get students talking — they are very reticent about coming forward with ideas and talking about them. But we got there eventually and now have 4 groups around themes of:

  • making gadgets/stuff
  • event/website/social enterprise
  • stock market / game
  • security system design and build

Hopefully we will have some project plans by next week….
