I’ll look into Dr. Bacon’s work. I’m curious to know what constitutes “short-term” weight loss. In other words, is there a difference in long-term maintenance of weight-loss when the initial loss happens at a much slower pace? We know from the Biggest Loser participant study that quick weight loss messes with our metabolism and is hard to maintain 5 years later, but what about gradual weight loss? My weight loss was very slow — about 1/4 to 1/2 lb per week. It will be interesting to see if it stays off this time. So far, so good. I have realized, though, since writing this a year ago, that I still have some work to do around my disordered eating, and I plan to resume my treatment (which may or may not adjust my practice with Naturally Slim.) Nevertheless, I hope scientists keep delving into this. More and more, I’m convinced that the Usual Suspects in the “obesity epidemic” — supersized french fries and sugary drinks — aren’t the real culprits. The research is out there: diets hurt us.
