As I writer myself, I truly relate to this passage. I can't remember how many times I have read my own writing several years later (maybe not 20 years later I am only mid-30s now) and have actually been impressed at what I wrote and feel like I am discovering it for the first time. Especially when you write a lot (which is a good thing) then you tend to forget individual experiences. I always treasured the ability to go back and "discover" my own writing again many years later and experience it the way my readers did years earlier.
