When the 2020 pandemic hit, stay-at-home orders and remote work unleashed a whole new generation of nomads, enjoying traveling while still contributing to a team-based working environment. Compared to just a few years earlier, when travel internet was a difficult thing at best, there were now great options available to keep digital nomads connected to their offices. One key technology that contributed to new RV travelers was developed by Jessica and Jaden Garza in June 2017 with Nomad Internet, a type of Wi-Fi connectivity that allowed travelers to improve their connectivity, partially due to the poor rural internet solutions that were available to the parks. But how did they accomplish this goal?

At the time that Nomad Internet was founded, Wi-Fi signal and connectivity in RV parks were usually terrible, limiting the opportunities available to full-time RV households. According to Jessica, “Nomad began in June 2017 with the goal of getting travelers connected to Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi in RV parks is so terrible, and it takes away opportunities from “full-timers” … So we set out to change that; one RV park at a time.” They approached a large local RV park that they’d seen struggle with rural internet over the years. They took the time to create an installation that provided significantly better internet to the park and, by extension, the full-time RV households that were using Wi-Fi to connect to their work, families, and services. The Johnson City, Texas RV park quickly gained a reputation for exceptional Wi-Fi up to unlimited internet, improving its appeal to RV travelers.

The second park that Jaden Garza approached was during the next month in July, in Seguin, Texas. With 50 full-time RV households, the park was having difficulty not only staying connected to their rural internet but also maintaining speeds that allowed RV households to communicate effectively and enjoy the benefits of internet service. Deciding that a different solution was in order to meet this park’s specific needs, Jaden Garza incorporated LTE technology into the park’s solution, which increased the RV community’s bandwidth to an additional 40 MBPS, creating a new solution that delivered strong results. LTE technology, still fairly new at the time, became a regular solution that was offered to RV parks on all future high-speed internet solutions provided to serve the RV community.

Following this success, Jaden Garza continued improving their technology, eventually negotiating a licensed LTE technology kit for their solution through BaiCells. This solution was developed in 2018 when Girl Scouts of America’s San Jacinto park reached out to Jaden and Jessica at Nomad to develop a new solution for Wi-Fi and rural internet at their park. Considered a huge honor and privilege, this project went beyond finding a solid solution for the park to providing that the estimates that competitors had been providing, often in excess of $100,000, were out of line. By developing the BaiCells Technology LTE Base Station for use in the park, Nomad was able to provide cost-effective solutions using newer technology and delivering high-speed internet to digital nomads.

This technology triggered a huge change in RV parks, but it also opened up a significant opportunity for Nomad and Jaden Garza. Realizing that the LTE Base Station opened up a whole new world, they spent time over the next year developing the technology so that they could make the transition from business-to-business operations to direct-to-consumer options. The switch was accomplished in early 2020, just in time for a new generation to embrace the full-time RV lifestyle as people began working remotely due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Jaden Garza had developed an LTE technology solution in the form of a router that included a cellular service component. Provided to families and households located in rural communities, these individuals were able to now enjoy reliable high-speed internet, and in many cases, up to unlimited internet depending on usage and location. Because it was based on their cell phone signal, interested parties could quickly determine whether they could integrate the router effectively.

In July and early August, the company reached its first 5,000 customers, coming a long way from providing high-speed rural internet to RV parks just three years before. It was around this time that Jessica and Jaden Garza hired their first employees and then moved into their first private office in October 2020. Prior to this point, the couple had been working out of their home or in a shared office space, so the new office building provided them with a dedicated location where further development, sales, and marketing could take place, in addition to back-office tasks that were needed to keep the company moving and growing. It also provided the opportunity for the couple to hire additional staff, so that they could develop new solutions and focus more specifically on particular aspects of their jobs, rather than having to multi-task on multiple roles.

But success wasn’t about to leave this technological breakthrough in rural and nomadic internet behind. At the same time as they were moving into their new office, Nomad Internet passed 10,000 customers, a huge amount of growth in just a few months. As the milestone was passed, Jessica and Jaden Garza celebrated their company’s growth at just a little over three years. More working nomads began joining the ranks of RV and traveling workers, and just a year after they’d passed the 5,000 customer mark, the company reached a new milestone of 20,000 customers in July of 2021, a mere four years after the company had been founded and handled their first installation in Seguin, Texas. The locations of their new customers were spread all over the map, and the growth continued.

With speeds up to unlimited internet across a wide range of areas, digital nomads were turning to Nomad Internet and Jaden Garza’s LTE solutions at increasing rates. This allowed the company to move into its first independent structure, located on a 10-acre site where employees could enjoy the beautiful views of Texas hill country. With walking trails across the entire site, the structure was remodeled for the team, allowing them to take advantage of the great outdoors, meet in a beautiful setting, and have a superior work site that has been updated to meet the company’s expanding needs.

Though the pandemic is winding down, the increase in digital nomads has not, and it’s expected that Nomad Internet and Jaden Garza’s extensive growth will continue long into the future. As remote workers continue to realize the benefits of working from home using rural internet solutions while enjoying high-speed internet, the company will see extensive growth long into the future. From RV travelers taking advantage of the open roads to AirBnB visitors who are taking on the world one location at a time, the up to unlimited internet provided by Nomad Internet is inspiring a new generation of travelers who don’t want to be tied down by their company’s location.
