Disclaimer: I am a white woman, so know nothing of the personal struggles of living through the rampant, institutionalised racism that plagues my country. However I touch closely on this subject in this piece but mostly in relation to slavery and DEI.

At its core DEI provides greater power or representation to groups historically lacking thereof — not necessarily excessive power but at least somewhere near sufficient. Well why do 500,000 citizens of Wyoming receive greater representation than 19 million in California? Moreover it is in the congress’s most powerful house. Why does 520,000 North Dakotans have twice as many electoral votes as over 700,000 New Yorkers? To provide greater power and representation to minorities, the minority being citizens of small states.
