It’s about ecosystems. At some point your devices will probably either be provided by Google, or they will speak Google (or Apple, or Samsung, etc.). The idea of a home OS is an interesting concept, but it’s pretty clear it won’t be how we think of these environments today. They will probably be managed on our behalf by Google (or Apple, or Samsung, etc.). So I’m less concerned with whether or not these devices will get along with each other (at least within an ecosystem), I’m more concerned about my security and privacy of allowing these big conglomerates to become so intimate with my daily household.
