Game-based learning

Games complement and improve the effectiveness of traditional learning as it adheres to any good teacher. Instant feedback, safe place to fail, unlimited patient, and available 24/7.

Video games require engagement. They’re interactive.

I would even argue that computer games are a better learning experience than watching a video, which is very passive.

Video games offer instant feedback for instant changes in realtime. Allowing for experimentation and trial and error.

Serious Games

In the context of a video game, serious games are the result of the use of a game-based methodology in a video game format. Serious games through video games create real situations in a virtual world so skills can be trained in a zero risk and secure environment.


The millennial, or ‘jilted’ generation make up a quarter of the UK’s population, and yet they are frequently derided as narcissistic, tech-dependent and lazy. But are these epithets fair?

Let me tell you a story. When I was a young teacher I had many ideas how to use computer games in education. As an avid fan of the Football Manager game series, I have learnt (passively) so much information from it. From budgeting to recognsing every flag in the world.

Fair to say I‘wasted’ lots of time in the game — I was in a flow.
