• You agree to pay a signup fee of €30 (for each person in the team), which covers insurance, T-shirt costs and goodie bags. This is a refundable cost after announcement of successful applicants (Monday 27th Janurary).
• You commit to a minimum fundraising target of €100 per person, raised before kick-off on the 22nd February.
• Your entry will only be finalized on receipt of the signed application form/disclaimer, given out at the safety talk.
• All sponsorship money must be handed in by 7th March 2014
• Each team must contain two students with at least one student from a participating university (DIT, NUIG, TCD, UCC, UCD), and all participants must be over the age of 18.
• For safety reasons you must travel in pairs - you must not travel alone. Never split up to get a lift. All pairs must stay together at all times. Whilst female-female teams are permitted, Jailbreak14 strongly recommends male-female or male-male teams.
• If you are hitching you must not thumb for lifts either in the slip-roads of motorways or actually on the motorways – this is illegal. For mixed couples, make sure that the male hitcher is the first in and the last out of each vehicle. On the day of Jailbreak, you will need to bring: -A valid passport, not expiring in the next 6 months if you intend to travel abroad - The mobile phone (number of which you gave in your application form) with international roaming and credit - Your Jailbreak 2014 T-shirt, supplied at the Safety Talk Evening - A letter confirming your participation in Jailbreak 2014
• None of your own money is to be used for transport on the outward journey. You may, however, raise money for your outward journey anytime after the event begins at 9am on the 24th January 2014, providing that the donor is aware that this money is not going towards charity directly. Any money collected in your fundraising bucket is to be given directly to the charities on your return home. You may spend your own money on food, accommodation and the return journey as necessary.
• You are not allowed to use your own transport, friends’/families’ transport, air miles, travel vouchers, etc. Pre-arrangements by negotiating with travel companies or other corporate sponsorship are allowed before the event commences and during the weekend.
• Every time you cross a border or take a flight, you must inform the Jailbreak team. You must also do so every six hours. You must also do so at 9pm GMT on Sunday 23rd February to confirm your whereabouts. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification.
• If you are taking a flight, or other long-haul journey, ask about the return journey. It is recommended that you do not take a flight without guarantee of return. This is particularly relevant with regards to the new US Visa Rules (these are explained in the guide). You can pay for the return half of the ticket yourself.
Your final position is your furthest point by 9pm on 23rd. If you are on a flight at 9pm we will calculate your in-air position.
• You must not travel or journey through any of these countries due to their inherent danger for travellers.
Libya Venezuela Iran Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Eritrea Central African Republic Egypt Congo, Democratic Republic of the Republic of South Sudan Sudan Burundi Colombia Chad Lebanon Syria Tunisia Kenya Pakistan Iraq Algeria Afghanistan Haiti El Salvador Yemen Saudi Arabia Mali Niger Mexico Philippines Somalia Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Honduras Nigeria Mauritania Cote d'Ivoire Libya Venezuela Iran
• The insurance cover provided by Jailbreak will last until the end of Saturday, 1st March 2014 to give you ample time to return to Ireland. Your insurance for Jailbreak will cover you nearly world-wide. It is, however, not valid for trips to the list of countries you are not allowed to travel to. Further information on Jailbreak Insurance will be given at the safety talk.
• In order to participate you must have private health insurance coverage up to €55,000. You must also be an Irish resident for the past 6 months.
• In the event of an emergency, contact a member of the Jailbreak Committee you are assigned to immediately. Jailbreak will do everything in its capacity to assist you but will not be responsible for any situation a team may find themselves in.
• The committee’s ruling is final in any dispute of the rules.
