Western World Gun Violence

Hey Jarryd,

I totally empathize with your position. It’s mind-blowing that so many American’s feel justified in their posession of fire arms, which have evolved into much more dangerous types since the evocation of the constitution back in the day. It certainly raises questions about whether those rights should be updated to reflect the present issues with commonplace gun violence in the States. I also support a gun-free society, because it becomes a chicken and egg situation, where the more people possess guns, the more they kill others and the more society feels the need to bear arms in order to protect themselves from others.

Sadly, I think mass shootings are symptom of a dysfunctional, unhappy country. As you say, taking away guns would lessen the opportunity of frequent shootings, however it would only eliminate the weapon and would not eliminate the many, many socio-economic, political problems facing Americans. In my opinion, the states are not ‘United’, like they claim. They are varying greatly in laws from state to state, which seems to break any sense of unity. They’re held together by a vague sense of national identity, but their values seem lost in a corporately-owned, unfulfilled society. Mental health is a big problem and there are not adequate resources for those suffering. Not to mention how media sensationalizes shooters, giving vulnerable people the idea that they could, too, go down in history for committing a shooting spree.

Thanks for this, I definitely enjoyed it.
