Being a writer can definitely be a difficult journey. It takes passion, dedication and hard work to create content that resonates with readers. Monetizing your writing can also be an uphill battle. It’s 2023 and there is an ample amount of opportunities around us if we put in the dedication and hard work together with a bit of luck, you can make it work. I hope this article helps you start your journey as a writer.

Ways in which we as writers can start our journey:

1. Start a blog: Create a blog on a topic that interests you, and start writing content on a regular basis. You can monetize your blog through affiliate links, advertisements and sponsored posts.

2. Freelance writing: Find freelance writing opportunities on popular freelance marketplaces like Fiverr, Upwork, PeoplePerHour, etc. You can search for writing jobs that match your skills and apply to them. You can also create portfolio website or a blog to showcase your writing samples.

3. Content writing: Look for content writing opportunities on websites. There are many websites that are in need of content writers. You can reach out to them and offer your services. Some examples of such websites include BlogMutt, Contentmart, Scripted, ContentWriters, Problogger, Textbroker and many more.

4. Ghostwriting: A ghostwriter is hired to write journalistic or literary works, speeches, etc. that are officially credited to another person as the author. Offer your services as a ghostwriter on websites like Ghostwriter Central and iWriter.

5. Online courses: Create your own online course on a topic you’re passionate about and sell it through websites like Teachable and Udemy.

6. E-books: Write and publish your own e-book and sell it on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, Smashwords and Barnes & Noble Press. You can also sell your e-books on your own website.

7. Copywriting: Copywriting involves writing sales copy for businesses. Look for copywriting opportunities on job boards such as Problogger and Craigslist.

8. Technical writing: You can offer your services as a technical writer on websites like Toptal and Guru. You can look for grant writing opportunities on job boards such as Grant Writing USA and Grant Writers Network.

9. Guest Blogging: You can also reach out to websites in your niche and offer to write guest blog posts for them. In exchange, you can include a link to your website or portfolio. Some websites that accept guest posts include Huffington Post, Forbes, and Business Insider.

10. Social Media Writing: Many individuals and businesses need help with their social media content. You can offer your services as a social media writer and help them with creating posts, writing captions and managing their social media accounts.

11. Writing Reviews: You can also get paid to write reviews of products or services. Some websites that pay for reviews include Vindale Research, ReviewStream and SliceThePie.

12. Academic Writing: If you have a degree in a particular field, you can offer your services as an academic writer. You can find academic writing jobs on websites like EssayPro, Edusson, Academia-Research, etc.

13. Writing Contests: This may not be a continuous source of income and might sound vague but there are many writing contests that offer cash prizes. You can search for writing contests online and participate in them.

14. Translation: If you are fluent in multiple languages, you can offer your services as a translator. You can find translation jobs on websites like Gengo, Moneymagpie, Talentdesire, etc.

I have researched and recommended these websites, but in case you start your journey on a different platform, note that it is important to research and verify the credibility of any website or job offer before accepting it.
