Don’t Wait for the Perfect Time to Act
I’m guilty of this one too. Waiting too long to do things that really I should’ve just gotten out the way.
Even this morning I’ve put of writing for 30 minutes. And I’m writing about not waiting to do things. Irony much?
Look, I get it. You’re busy. There’s things in your life that just don’t take priority.
Like starting your own business. Getting extra credit in college. Writing that book.
Sometimes life gets in the way. And that’s OK.
There’s usually nothing actually stopping you from doing these things. Just that you’re not focused on them right now.
I like to compare it to meditation. People think that meditation’s about nothingness. That you only succeed by thinking of nothing. That you fail when your attention wanders.
In reality, meditation’s about bringing back your attention if it wanders. It’s about presentness.
There’s a massive similarity there. All those tasks you’ve put off — they don’t have to stay put off. You can bring your attention back. That’s all productivity is, after all.
So today, how about you pick something off your list you’ve been putting off for a while. And just do it. You’ll feel better for it.
I’m just a guy from the UK that’s okay at writing, better at startups, awesome at making coffee.
I curate a weekly email digest and publication called Starting Up.
This is day 100 in a 365 day writing experiment. You can check out why I’m writing every day here.
