You Get What You Deserve (Eventually)

I was driving down the motorway earlier, for about 2 hours in each direction. I had errands to run a few counties over.

It’s not massively uncommon for me to make trips like this. Sometimes they’re pretty nice journeys. I like getting out the office for a bit.

Today wasn’t a good trip. There was hundreds of terrible drivers on the road, but one in particular stood out.

For about 5 miles, there was a silver Audi swerving around behind me in the outside lane. We were in fairly slow-moving traffic. Nowhere to go. But this dude insisted on tailgating me the whole way.

He was trying to get past, pulling in and out, far too close, just generally being an ass.

I can imagine what he was thinking. My car—to be totally honest—looks like crap. I’d rather stay in a nice apartment than have a nice car.

But there was literally nowhere to go. It’s not like I was holding him up.

This whole time, a motorbike was following him. I’ve ridden bikes a long time, and you get to know how different groups of people ride. This guy was clearly experienced. Taking a careful, considered, line. Keeping far enough back to be out of trouble.

The guy tried to undertake me, swerving very dangerously just before a roundabout and diving up the inside.

The bike was an undercover cop. He turned on his blue flashy lights. The guy assumed it was an emergency and pulled in. The cop gestured him to pull over.

I’d love to know what happened next, but the cop didn’t look happy. It’s safe to say the guy didn’t have a good day.

The moral here is that people do get what they deserve.

If you treat people badly, you might get away with it for a while. Eventually, you won’t. You’ll get what you deserve.

Same goes for treating people well. I like to think so anyway. Treat people as well as you can, and you’ll be rewarded eventually.

Basically, just be nice. Nice people win.
